CHILDREN'S SERVICES

Alternative Behavioral School (ABS)
ABS is a school provided in collaboration with the Special Services Department of Oklahoma City Public Schools (OCPS). Students in this project have been suspended from their home school for violating the weapons, substance abuse or disruptive behavior policies of OCPS. ABS is open to elementary, middle and high school students. NorthCare counselors and OCPS special education teachers work together to provide an educational environment where students can achieve their academic and behavioral goals.

Our school utilizes the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) approach with our students.  PBIS provides an emphasis on school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Instead of using a patchwork of individual behavioral management plans, a continuum of positive behavior support for all students within a school is implemented in areas, including the classroom and non-classroom settings. Positive behavior support is an application of a behaviorally-based systems approach to enhance the capacity of schools, families and communities to design effective environments that improve the link between research-validated practices and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs.

Care Counseling and Trauma Services
The Care Counseling and Trauma Services Program at NorthCare is designed to provide high quality outpatient mental health services to children, adolescents and families who have been impacted by trauma. Children who have been sexually abused or have experienced some other form of trauma can recover from the physical and emotional harm of being victimized. Our program provides a safe, therapeutic environment for children and their families to work though the trauma and the related feelings of anger, guilt, fear, sadness, hurt and loss of trust.

Our licensed and master’s level clinical staff assess the child and family at intake to determine the most appropriate type of treatment. Therapists often utilize Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in treating children and families, which combines trauma-sensitive interventions and cognitive behavioral therapy. Children and parents are provided with knowledge and skills related to processing the trauma; managing distressing thoughts, feelings and behaviors; and enhancing safety, parenting skills and family communication. Other trauma services include individual therapy, play therapy for young children, family therapy, psychoeducation and advocacy and collaboration with community partners.

Child and Adolescent Clinic
NorthCare’s Child and Adolescent Clinic offers a wide range of outpatient therapy services for children of all ages and their families. Our staff consists of licensed and master’s level therapists, who provide individual, family, and group therapy, case management and crisis services. Multilingual therapy services are also available. Families may seek our help because of problems related to depression, anxiety, sexual or physical abuse and other trauma, disruptive behaviors or family crises. Each family is provided a prompt intake appointment to develop a comprehensive service plan tailored to the unique strengths and needs of the family and child. Our goal is to improve the psychological and emotional well-being of children, adolescents and their families.

In addition to traditional outpatient therapy, our clinic offers a variety of specialized services. For young children, we provide Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) for ages 2-7, Early Childhood Assessment for ages 0-5 and Play Therapy/Filial Therapy for ages 0-8. Our clinical staff also provides mental health consultation to childcare centers in the community. This consultation is offered to provide education/information and to help the childcare staff address problematic behaviors of the children in their care.

We offer Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT), a brief, problem-focused family therapy model that works to change communication and relationship patterns in families. Our clinicians are trained to provide treatment for co-occurring disorders for adolescents and families impacted by substance abuse. We utilize an integrated approach to treating mental health and substance abuse.
